The Ultimate Wellness Wearable: Which One Is Right for You?
APPLE WATCH V. WHOOP V. OURA RING:
Which Wearable Is Right for You?
I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the go and have a hard time slowing down until my body forces me to stop, and then ‘ll be sick for three weeks. I’ve ried the Apple Watch, WHOOP and Oura Ring over the years to help guide me to take much-needec downtime and recover properly. Yes, its embarrassing I can’t just tell myself to do that, but unfortunately it’s never been my personality. I run until I can’t. Each device shines in different ways, so the best choice really depends on your lifestyle.
Apple Watch
Pros
- The only smartwatch of the three (if you want to juggle health tracking with your calls, texts, Apple Pay, etc.).
- Good for workouts, GPS, and general everyday convenience.
- The latest can detect falls, irregular heart rhythms, and more.
Cons
- Bulky to sleep in.
- Battery usually needs charging every 1-2 days. Most people just charge it at night, so it’s hard to track sleeping if that’s the marker you’re interested in.
- Health insights aren’t as detailed as dedicated recovery trackers.
Best for: People who want one device to handle both fitness and daily life. For me, it was overwhelming to be contacted all the time, even though I had notifications turned off. It was just too much accessibility for me. I needed a break. My cell is enough.
WHOOP
Pros
- Excellent recovery, strain, and sleep coaching.
- Their app is incredibly detailed, including a daily “journal” to check off and track your habits like alcohol consumption, hydration, eating late, etc.
- Has a crazy amount of types of activity tracking to choose from, even cooking, babywearing, acupuncture, and caddying.
- Comfortable enough for workouts and can be worn in different ways (wrist, bicep, in clothing made by WHOOP).
- Battery charges while you wear it and holds for almost a week.
- Silent vibration alarm is awesome.
Cons
- Monthly subscription required.
- No screen or smartwatch features directly on device.
- Wearing it 24/7 on your wrist can start to feel repetitive after a few years.
- Also, let’s be real… band tans.
- The vibration alarm can’t be snoozed or followed by a backup alarm, so if you miss it, that’s it.
Best for: Athletes or very active lifestyles focused on optimizing training and recovery.
Oura Ring
Pros
- Lightweight, stylish, and easy to forget you’re wearing.
- Excellent sleep tracking and recovery insights.
- Strong cycle tracking and women’s health features.
- Long battery life (the latest model is almost a week).
Cons
- No alarm feature.
- Not ideal for tracking every workout in real time.
- Not a lot of activities to choose from. Instead you have to add “tags” to the day and duration of an activity, which gets a little extra.
- Subscription required for full insights.
- Rings aren’t everyone’s preference during lifting or manual work.
Best for: People who prioritize sleep, recovery, overall wellness, and cycle tracking without wearing a watch.

My Pick
The Oura Ring. I’m not an over the top athlete, so it gives me the basic health data I actually use. It’s comfortable enough to wear around the clock, and blends into everyday life without feeling like another screen or point of contact. I chose gold. It’s super cute and I generally love wearing it. As someone who doesn’t love wearing a watch, and who appreciates the added cycle tracking, it’s definitely been the easiest wearable to stick with.
