Oves Seafood Restaurant
Asbury Kitchen

624 Asbury Ave, Ocean City • 609-399-3639
www.asburykitchen.com

Asbury Kitchen came onto the scene a couple summers ago as one of the best spots to dine for breakfast and lunch with its creative, healthy menu from bennys to burgers. This Downtown eatery with its bold orange outdoor tables and chairs makes for a cool spot to gather, be it with friends or fam. It’s the second restaurant by Mira and Angel Teofanov, who also have a spot inside the Promenade Food Court on the Boardwalk.
Asbury Kitchen serves breakfast all day and an extensive lunch menu. If you can’t decide between the ciao bella benny (smashed avocado, parmesan cheese, tomato, hollandaise sauce and everything spice) or the Philly Cheesesteak omelette – with grilled beef steak and American cheese, we suggest you get both, and enjoy while people watching the passersby. For breakfast, Asbury also has huevos rancheros, breakfast tacos, a ton of avocado toasts, burritos, pancakes, and loads of French toast options. Oui! There’s almond honey, cream cheese stuffed, salted caramel stuffed, and cinnamon bun. There are sweet and savory crepes (one option’s filled with goat cheese, swiss, mozz, and basil) and belgian waffles, too.
At Asbury Kitchen, their goal is to create a variety of healthy options for their customers… for example, the home fries can be substituted for sautéed spinach or fresh tomatoes. There’s an egg white breakfast sandwich and they are always adding a variety of new vegetarian/vegan options.
Salads, soups, burgers, savory crepes, hot and cold sandwiches, grilled cheese, wraps, chicken sandwiches, and other options like the quiche of the day (yes please) and the salmon bowl are on the menu for lunch. There’s inside and outside seating and an ever expanding, gluten-free menu including new items avocado tartare and salmon tartare.

Aunt Betty's Ice Cream Shack Ocean City, NJ
Aunt Betty’s Ice Cream Shack

21st & Asbury, Ocean City • 609-398-4001 • 40th & West, Ocean City • 609-398-4005 • www.auntbettysicecreamshack.com

Is there anything ice cream can’t handle? Hot day? Check. In need of a sweet snacky? Done. Feeling sad or happy? Ice cream’s got that. And nobody does ice cream better than Aunt Betty’s Ice Cream Shack.
Inside, a crew of friendly scoopers dishes out your dessert in a clean, family-fun atmosphere. Just like her husband Uncle Bill, Aunt Betty has two locations: 21st and Asbury and 40th and West.
Aunt Betty serves both Hershey’s ice cream and creamy soft serve ice cream, milkshakes, homemade brownies and cookies and more. You can get almost anything you want on top of your ice cream and you can put that ice cream in a sundae, or wrap it in an Uncle Bill’s waffle. Go ahead, read that again. Better yet, just go get your waffles and ice cream (Bring this book with you!).
40th Street has outdoor dining tables and chairs ready for your family. The 21st Street location is a tropical oasis with ample seating on the deck. Check out Aunt Betty’s on Instagram and Facebook for specials. Don’t miss the Blockbuster – an Uncle Bill’s waffle, Aunt Betty’s ice cream and a warm Nauti Donut. Or just cool off on a hot day with a big scoop in a homemade waffle cone. There’s something to please everyone, even your dog. Rover deserves a sweet treat, too, and he’s welcome at the outside tables.

Barefoot Market Ocean City, NJ
Barefoot Market

214 West Avenue, Ocean City • 609-399-0221
facebook.com/WhosOnFirstCafe • @BarefootMarketOCNJ

Sometimes you know you’ll love a coffee shop as soon as you walk in. With its whimsical decor inside and out, it’s easy to walk into Barefoot Market, but to say this is just a “coffee shop,” isn’t really correct. Barefoot Market has coffee, good coffee – La Colombe – but it has so much more. Owner Jennifer makes some of the freshest breads, scones, cookies, sandwiches, soups, bowls, quiches, and salads around. These aren’t your average eats either – these are gourmet takes on tradition. That muffin pictured below? There’s Mexican chocolate in it. The scones are OC famous and the perfect companion for your cappuccino. Try the Pear, Butterscotch, Mexican Chocolate, Honey Walnut, Lemon Poppy, and Raspberry. Actually you should make it a goal try every flavor – they switch daily. Grab your food and drink, sit inside or on the porch, and then go back and do it all over again.

Blitz's Market Ocean City, NJ
Blitz’s Market

2100 Asbury Avenue, Ocean City • 609-399-6080
www.blitzsmarkets.com

If you’ve never had a Blitz’s sandwich, have you even been to Ocean City? We kid, but seriously, Blitz’s Market is one of those legendary OC spots beloved by both locals and visitors. Blitz’s has been around forever. It got its name from founder Tony Bilazzo, whose football nickname was “Blitz,” but for nearly the past three decades, the Newman family has carried on the Blitz tradition of providing simply delicious food for everyone with its deli and grill open daily.
On the menu, there’s cold and hot sandwiches (including breakfast) and sides (hello hash browns and French toast sticks), fresh fruit smoothies, cold hoagies, steak sandwiches, salads, burgers, paninis, wraps, specialty hot subs, and more. Seriously, you can spend an entire summer trying all the different options Blitz’s offers… Challenge!
Like things with a little kick? Try the Blitz’s breakfast burrito. It’s scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, sausage, and hash browns in a wheat wrap served with a side of salsa. Or perhaps the Reuben will tempt you. It’s corned beef or turkey with melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing on grilled Jewish rye bread. Blitz’s nearly broke the internet a few years ago with the debut of its pickle sandwich, a hoagie made with an entire pickle instead of bread. They also have lettuce wraps, traditional wraps, and gluten-free options. Blitz’s sells a variety of local products like Hank Sauce, Polish Water Ice, and Shriver’s salt water taffy. They have newspapers, freshly ground and brewed OC Coffee, fresh produce, and offer Dietz and Watson lunch meats. You can order online, too. Next time you’re having friends over, for a game night, grab a bucket of wings or tenders from Blitz’s and consider it done. Be it a small gathering or a huge Night in Venice bash, Blitz’s can cater it with trays of their classics.
That’s a win-win, OC style.

Goji

612 Asbury Avenue, Ocean City • 609-814-2856
www.lifesgoji.com

They had us at pistachio-crusted matcha bar and CBD chocolate heart. Let’s be honest, Goji had us swooning before we even walked in to its industrial-cool aesthetic and organic, inspired foods and juices.
Goji was born over in Somers Point back in 2019, where you’ll still find its original location (with a drive-through!). Their OC shop opened a few years back and is serving up a tasty menu of smoothies, bowls, bars, cookies, brownies, coffees, teas, espressos, tonics, juices, sandwiches, snacks, and salads – packed with nutrition to keep you feeling and looking good.
Try the Spark juice, with sweet and earthy carrot, orange, pineapple, apple, ginger and turmeric. Or maybe the Force smoothie, with coffee, cacao, mylk, avocado, banana, cacao nib, date, almond butter, and coconut butter.
Goji’s creative, plant-based eats include a buffalo chickpea salad and their classic ABS sandwich with almond butter, banana, honey, and hemp hearts, among other delish, healthy options. After all, owners (and couple) Julia and Scott bonded over their shared passion for good food and fueling their bodies with natural, whole ingredients. When they opened Goji, they committed to buying local, offering the freshest product possible for maximum nutrition, and reducing their footprint. At Goji, they have a refillable bottle system. Buy a bottle, refill for less, and live your best life. There are beginner and pro juice cleanses available as well.

Hooked on Breakfast Ocean City, NJ
Hooked On Breakfast

916 Asbury Avenue, Ocean City • 609-938-9285
www.hookedonbreakfast.com

Owners Keven and Alicia Stauffer are living their dream after nearly a decade of planning. One walk inside Hooked on Breakfast and you can feel the love. The restaurant is clean and fresh, and filled with happy families enjoying their meals.
The menu at this Asbury eatery is as exciting to the tastebuds as it is to the eyes. Take a look to the right… see what we mean? From crepes filled with fresh fruit and sweet cream and chocolate chip cannoli pancakes to omelets with asparagus, mushrooms, bacon and gruyere and a variety of homemade French toasts… This is a menu to please everyone, even Aunt Karen. Try the Sweet Breeze Waffle – with raspberries, a homemade berry gelato (!), whipped cream and a raspberry reduction. For salty savory eaters, there are loads of egg dishes for breakfast and a large lunch menu with sandwiches (cold and hot), salads, burgers, grilled cheeses, and melts.
There’s always something new and fresh to try at Hooked. Chef Keven makes the round rolls for the burgers and sandwiches and the French toast bread (there’s hot cinnamon apples inside!). And each month he offers deliciously creative specials for breakfast and lunch and featured specialty cheeses.
Hooked yet?

Johnny B Goode Ice Cream Parlors

14th & Asbury, Ocean City • 609-525-0646 • 34th & West, Ocean City • 609-525-0648 • www.johnnybgoode.net

This is a tale of two ice cream parlors. With a Johnny B Goode in both midtown and Downtown OCNJ, no matter where you are on the island, you’re close enough for a sweet, rockin’ treat, gourmet hot dog, or steamy cup of espresso. We know, your mind is officially blown.
At the 14th Street parlor, pull up a chair under the red umbrellas and dive into your specialty sundae while you bop your head to karaoke or watch a seasoned magician perform during free family fun nights. This location has the full ice cream menu and a selection of wrapped, handcrafted fudge.
The 34th Street parlor also has the full ice cream menu, along with handcrafted fudge by the slice (it’s made right in the shop!), a full espresso bar, muffins, fresh fruit, and breakfast waffles (stop in early for a mini morning sweet treat), novelty candies, and gifts.
When it’s summer and the temperature is red hot, it’s all about the IC and Johnny B Goode serves up the freshest, creamiest, dreamiest ice creams (some homemade flavors, too). Choose from malts, shakes, cones, sundaes, and — wait for it — ice cream cakes! The sweet geniuses at JBG create specialty shakes, too, topped with big cookies, slices of cake, brownies… you’ll be knocked out by how cool they look AND taste!
Of course, let’s not forget the fresh baked waffles… That’s right, when you order waffles and ice cream at JBG, the waffle is made right then and there. But the biggest scoop this year is that Johnny B Goode is celebrating 30 years of serving up sweetness and smiles in OC.

Manco & Manco Pizza Ocean City, NJ
Manco & Manco Pizza

Three locations in Ocean City; 8th, 9th and 12th streets, Boardwalk. Somers Point & Citizens Bank Park locations, too • 567.89.MANCO
www.mancospizza.com

This is legendary pizza – tangy, fresh sauce, and quality cheese served piping hot with a taste that will stick in your memory like a warm summer breeze. Since 1956, Manco has served some of the most delicious pizza on the Boards and the aroma as you walk down the Boardwalk will make you think it’s time for a slice any time of day.
Their flagship store at 9th and the Boardwalk is big and shiny and those Manco memories you love are waiting to be made inside. In addition to pizza, they also serve wings, tenders, fries, and zeppole for dessert. In 2022, the Manco family expanded their pizza empire to Citizens Bank Park. Grab a slice during your next concert or Phillies game for a home run snack.
Manco’s has spent over seven decades serving the thin, crispy pizza pie that makes your mouth water just thinking about it. It’s always entertaining to watch as the pieman shapes and tosses the secret-recipe dough before sliding it into the rotating oven. Even the traditional sequence of ingredients is different – at Manco it’s cheese then sauce.

Nauti Donuts Ocean City, NJ
Nauti Donuts

2133 Asbury Avenue, Ocean City • 609-938-2253
www.nautidonuts.com

When Nauti Donuts burst onto the scene back in 2018, they brought confection perfection to OCNJ. Want proof? Roll by Nauti on any given summer day. The scent of hot, sweet donuts lingers in the salt air making it virtually impossible to walk by without walking in. And when you do, you’ll feel like a sailor navigating waves of a dessert ocean.
Ordering is easy. Keep it simple with a Classic donut, a donut from the Nauti Dozen, a cultivated crew of crave worthy confections. Or be a master of your donut by customizing the donut of your dreams. Choose a coating, a topping, and a drizzle. They’re made right then and there in front of you and served hot.
Try the Jack Dusty (blueberry icing and powdered sugar) and the Seagull’s Favorite (chocolate icing, graham cracker crumbs, marshmallow drizzle). Chances are good, you’ll see owners Gabby and Chris O’Hara, as you order your morning (or afternoon) treat.
Nauti Donuts also offers an impressive selection of caffeinated drinks to keep your crew going. Hot coffee, cold brew, nitro brew, espresso and lattes are among those served. Then… just when you think you’ve seen it all… you spot the Jonny Tsunami. It’s a glazed donut topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge drizzle, rainbow jimmies and powdered sugar.
Nauti is open seasonally, from March to October (pumpkin donuts!) with indoor and outdoor seating. Now that’s hot.

A good hardware store is hard to find. Okay, perhaps that’s not exactly how that saying goes, but it’s true. Know what else is true? Step through the glass doors on West Avenue and shop your way straight across to the Asbury building. There’s a huge assortment of model trains and accessories along one entire wall with the opposite filled with Weber grills and accessories so extensive, you may break out into a happy dance.
We won’t tell.

We found your new happy place. Glazed Over is a big open art studio space right on Asbury where you (and your crew) can create, paint, and mosaic, with style and ease (no experience necessary here). Chances are good, when you do head in, new owner Connie Henry will be there to greet you. If you’ve been a Glazed customer, you probably know Connie. She worked at Glazed from 2014-2019 as well as nearly every other business in town. We kid, but only sort of. Connie’s held lots of jobs around the island, helping other owners succeed. This year, she was ready to lock in on something of her own. When Glazed’s former owner Jennifer Boyce was ready to sell, it was kismet.
Painting pottery at Glazed Over is as easy as go. Walk in, pick a blank ceramic piece from the gallery wall, select a brush from the cool paintbrush garden (hundreds of brushes “growing” out of mugs painted in house, each as awesome as the next), and choose your color palette. Grab a seat and go create your masterpiece. When you’re finished, the folks at Glazed take over. The piece gets double dipped in clear glaze for the most beautiful results, and fired in the kiln at 1800 degrees. In a few days, it’s ready for pick up or to be shipped to your home.
Have your own night out with friends and family – you can bring food and drink for a party while you paint. Glazed hosts birthday parties, mom’s night out events, weekly toddler times, and other fun events. If you want to feed your inner artist, hang out with friends in a cool spot, try something new, or simply love to color and create, go to your happy place at Glazed Over.

Did you know the Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum is located inside a historic 92,000 sq. ft. wooden World War II naval hangar? Hangar #1, home to the aviation museum, was assembled by the US Navy in 1942 from a kit delivered via railroad. NASW is a former naval dive-bombing training site, where 42 naval aviators perished.
Listed on the national and state registers of historic places, Hangar #1 has over 25 historic aircraft and interactive exhibits. You can even sit in the cockpit of an actual aircraft and climb a real air traffic control tower. Ignite your imagination along with your knowledge of Cape May County history.
Get your Top Gun on with the Grumman F-14 Tomcat and explore the TBM Avenger, the same type flown by President George Bush Sr. The collection also includes the “The Ace Maker,” an F6F Hellcat, two Vietnam-era “Huey” helicopters, jeeps, flight simulators, US Coast Guard Sikorsky Seaguard, and much more.
The mission of the museum is to memorialize the 42 aviators, restore Hangar #1, and educate on the county’s history during World War II. Your visit supports this mission for the 501c3 nonprofit, that also offers educational programming, and other events. The museum even hosts private events, including weddings. Yes, you can get married at Hangar #1. Large groups can book a tour, though for most, tours are self-guided. Memberships are available, and donations can be made at usnasw.org.

Whether you’re a native, a long-time resident or a day-tripper visiting OC for the first time, you owe it to yourself to learn just a little about the history of this eight-mile barrier island off the coast of New Jersey.
The museum is an ever-changing testament to the many volunteers who give their time and resources to ensure that Ocean City’s vibrant history stays alive. Explore its extensive collection of Ocean City heirlooms, photographs, and memorabilia – and learn how OCNJ became the island it is today.
The Ocean City Historical Museum is an independent, non-profit organization supported by both memberships and donations. You can donate and become a member online at ocnjmuseum.org or in person. When you head in, check out the cool merch at the gift shop, including items inspired by OC”s official dog mascot Hobo.

At Ocean City Magazine, we get to celebrate the people, places, shops, service providers, restaurants, snack shacks, beaches, rides, all the things that make this barrier island America’s Greatest Family Resort.
Ocean City Magazine is published six times a year in glorious color by the same team that brought you this book (thank you for reading!). It’s distributed all over the island and the fab surrounding communities of Somers Point, and Upper Township.
The issues are free if you pick one up in and around town. If you’re sitting at home dreaming about visiting your happy place, you’re in luck… a subscription to Ocean City Magazine is a quick click away for door-to-door delivery. US Life Saving Station 30
US Life Saving Station 30

801 East 4th Street, Ocean City • 609-398-5553
www.uslifesavingstation30.com

Standing at the corner of 4th and Atlantic is US Life Saving Station 30, one of only three original life saving stations still standing in New Jersey. In 1886, the building stood next to the sandy shore and ocean. Surfmen protecting sailors and any others from the ravaging waves lived in the station while off duty from their demanding job. Back then there was an average of four shipwrecks a month. The job of surfmen was so demanding that the motto of the Ocean City station was “You have to go out; You don’t have to come back; So others may live.”
Today, the Life Saving Station stands as a living history museum. Visitors can walk through the building as the surfmen did some 134 years ago. The kitchen, dining room, and boat house are all filled with period pieces that can be picked up and tried out. Play croquet on the lawn, complete a report at the Keeper’s desk, or sit in the surfboat. History is ready to come alive at US Life Saving Station 30.

www.thebeehivestudio.net

The first thing you may notice when you walk into the light-filled space on Asbury is the warm, welcoming vibe. The second is the fragrance of a candle instead of the strong smell of chemical hair products.
At Beehive Studio, things are different than you may have experienced last time you were in a salon. They use only holistic, clean hair and skin care products in the salon, giving your hair a fabulous rich look and feel without the harsh chemicals.
After experiencing her own allergy from overexposure of traditional hair products, owner Ashley Gillian started looking for healthier alternatives. Once the tech caught up with holistic products, and the results were there, there was no reason not to use the clean products full time at Beehive. After all, anything we place on our skin and hair is absorbed by our bodies, so using clean products is key for optimum health. Beehive is a more sustainable, holistic salon, but also a community space promoting this holistic lifestyle in comfort.
Ashley is a master colorist/stylist with over 15 years experience in the industry. She knows her stuff and will, along with her team, listen to your needs, and give you a great style.
Services include root touch ups, foil highlights, corrective color, men’s color, tone changes, and fantasy color (there’s an entire color bar in the back!), cuts, blowouts, waxing, hair extensions, and more. Beehive uses Shibui, Oway Organics, AIIR, Aluram, and other clean, conscious hair products that are vegan friendly.

If you pass Scarborough Inn on a warm evening in summer, chances are good you’ll catch laughter and conversation coming from the large wraparound front porch with the big rocking chairs. This is what Sne Avichal visualized when he began his dream job as innkeeper in 2020. For Sne, a registered architect by trade, being innkeeper is the opportunity to create a comfortable experience for his guests year round. Sne grew up in nearby Ventnor, and brings his relaxed conversational hosting style to Ocean City, inviting neighbors and guests to connect with him and with the Inn’s storied past. From its iconic fish-scale shingles, to Benny Goodman playing on the Bluetooth gramophone, Scarborough Inn brings a nostalgic, cozy vibe for the ultimate escape.
Scarborough Inn is Ocean City’s oldest hotel, built in 1895. The distinct Victorian building is a registered historical landmark and is accented with cut flowers and gardens (a source of pride for Sne). With detailed touches like surprising guests with rosemary lemonade on the porch, and using wax seals for its stationery, the Scarborough Inn connects the community to its past and present.

Coastal Chateau’s Story

Introducing the Coastal Chateau, Ocean City’s premier boutique hotel, formerly known as the Atlantis Inn. Freshly renovated by a local South Jersey family, the Coastal Chateau seamlessly blends historic charm with modern luxury. It’s nestled steps away from the beach and Boardwalk and offers unrivaled coastal elegance and laid-back vibes. The entire castle-by-the-sea was renovated with coastal sophistication in mind. The upscale furnishings and amenities promise a haven of relaxation during your stay. Indulge in breathtaking sunset views from the rooftop terrace, savor morning coffee on the expansive (and fabulous) wrap-around porch, or unwind in the tranquil garden at OC’s newest boutique hotel experience.
