Ocean City Theatre Company’s Cupid’s Cabaret

The Ocean City Theatre Company (OCTC) usually celebrates Valentine’s Day with in-person cabaret. This year, the Cupid’s Cabaret will go on- virtually.

“Typically we do some sort of cabaret when we have our cast performers do a one night only thing of classic Broadway love songs. [This year] we asked a lot of our performers if they wanted to put together their own videos,” said Laura Bretherick, production manager.

However, not all of the songs are Broadway.

“[They perform] mostly Broadway but some are classic love songs,” said Laura.

The event has been ongoing for years.

“Michael Hartman (founding artistic director) created our Valentine’s Cabaret many years ago. We wanted to keep the tradition going,” Laura said.

This year, they have 18 participants in the event, including some members of their junior company.

“We have four of our junior company members singing a song.”

Their performers are currently based around the globe. They work contract to contract.

“We have our “staples” who are in our shows and help at our camps if they’re available,” Laura said.

If you’d like to enjoy a night of cabaret, you need to purchase a Cupid’s Cabaret ticket for $30 by February 13 at 6pm. At 7pm, the link to the performance will go live to ticket holders. The link will be available until February 20 at 10pm.

Looking forward to the summer season, OCTC is aiming to announce their schedule at the end of this month.

“We’re working on our summer schedule. We hope to announce it at the end of February,” said Laura.
