Ashley On Asbury | So Much to Love About September
HAPPY LOCAL SUMMER!
That’s what we call September here. September is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather is starting to get a little cooler in the evenings, but during the day we can still enjoy everything our adorable little island has to offer, like the weekly Farmers Market at the Tabernacle and other family friendly events. The last market is on September 16, so if there are any last-minute local produce, foods, and crafts you want to stock up on, now is your time to get them.
The buzz and excitement of families and kids starting a new school year has just started too. It’s the beginning and the end of the cycles and rhythms of our routines. Labor Day is happening a little late this year, so the annual Labor Day race is on September 7. This is a fun 5-mile race along the beach with a 1-mile run/walk. It’s a nice way to end Labor Day weekend and get a little exercise before going back to the office on Tuesday.
As the summer season starts to wind down, it doesn’t mean all of the fun and entertainment comes to a close. September 12 will hold the “Cruisin’ the boards” car show up along the Boardwalk, so you’ll definitely want to get over here to check that out. As well as the Corvette show on September 13 with over 400 different Corvettes.
The end of the month brings us the Parachute Pyrotechnic Show on September 19 and Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow on September 20. The latter consists of several highly trained and specially licensed Team Fastrax demonstrators exiting the aircraft 6,000 feet above Ocean City’s Beach & Boardwalk. Brilliant white or multi-colored projectile pyrotechnics are then ignited and flown in formation,
creating a dazzling display for spectators on the ground. 8pm jump with a landing on the 7th Street Beach. Viewable along the entire Boardwalk.
In the Downtown, shops are all operating at peak summer hours so it’s the perfect time to take a nice stroll down Asbury and pop into your favorite boutiques to take advantage of some early end of summer and Labor Day sales.
I also love to take this opportunity to enjoy breakfast at a couple of the busier breakfast places along Asbury. I usually save my Jon and Patty’s breakfast trips for September, with the kids back in school it’s quieter and the wait time is significantly less.
