I hope you’ve been enjoying the summer and no one partied too hard on July 4 or Night in Venice this year. This has always been one of my favorite times of the year. On Wednesday mornings every week, we’ve had the farmer’s markets at the Tabernacle. We were able to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday which is always a lot of fun. Especially when it falls over a long weekend like it did this year. Then at the end of the month Night in Venice is always the best night of the year, in my humble opinion.
Now that some of the craziness of the summer is slowing down and we’re into the lazy days of summer, my friends and I got into an interesting debate sitting on the beach the other day. We all know that the pizza situation here in town is a conversation that could start a riot in a good way. It’s no secret that we have plenty of excellent pizza shops here in Ocean City. I know I have certain staples depending on where on the island I am.
For me, if I’m on the Boardwalk, I have to go get ROMA up on the 6th block. If I make it down a little farther down or I have people visiting from out of town, we’ve got to get them over to the OG Manco and Manco. My friend on the other hand will go to Prep’s every time, every time. I have personally never strayed for my tried and true favorites, even as an adult.
It’s no secret that we have so many amazing options for pizza on the Boards. But I’m curious, what is everyone’s favorite pizza spot Downtown?
We have a few local faves right here on Asbury. Bennie’s Bread has a wood fired pizza made with 00 flour (IYKYK), Chelsea Pizza has tried and true faves, Bakeria 1010 has both a traditional pie and a square sourdough pie, both worth trying. Of course, for late nighters there’s Dominoes on the corner of 9th and Asbury.
Still not sure which is your fave? Here is my suggestion: take a nice long walk up and down Asbury on an empty stomach. I think the only sensible idea would be to start up at 6th street and simply try a slice at each place you come to. I know that sounds crazy but how else will we ever come to a conclusion?
