Ashley on Asbury: Cozy Ways to Spend a Rainy Day

A rainy day in Ocean City!

Hey there my friends! I hope everyone has been enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve finally been graced with over the last few weeks. I know I certainly have been. One of my favorite things about the late spring like this is when we get lucky enough to get some beach days before Memorial Day. It reminds me of why we all love living here in Ocean City.

As we approached Memorial Day, I was watching the weather report hoping we’d get lucky and get a change in forecast from rain to sun. Now, as my great-grandfather used to predict, a bad Memorial Day means a great summer ahead. Still, it got me thinking, what do we as locals like to do during rainy weather? How could someone from out of town still enjoy being on vacation while it’s not beach weather?

So, how would I start a rainy day here in Ocean City?

I would start Downtown for breakfast. My personal favorite is Asbury Kitchen… everything is fresh and made to order. I love that they serve breakfast all day. Their service is great and the whole staff is so friendly. After that I would take a stroll south along Asbury, with a stop to look through some of the stores to see if I wanted to treat myself to a new outfit or bathing suit.

By midday, I’d be ready to get some exercise or movement in, so I’d look for a yoga studio or Pilates studio to get a little bit of sweat on. There is a hidden secret up on the second floor of Stainton’s department store. True Light Yoga has a little something for everyone. If you like a heated class with a lot of deep spirituality linked with a strong yoga practice or you prefer a more gentle yin experience this studio has you covered. They also have a great rotating class on Friday evenings with fun music themes. Their schedule has a lot of opportunities to get over there, so don’t be shy!

For a late afternoon pick me up, I’d wander across the street and right over to Ocean City Coffee Co. They make excellent lattes of all types and flavors. What I love most are the fun seasonal drinks. Not all drinks are made with coffee or espresso either, so if caffeine isn’t your friend, you will still find a fun treat!

By now, you will need a break. It’s the perfect time to head back to the house and get a nice warm shower and freshen up for the evening. Now, I’m not sure if y’all know this or not, but we FINALLY have a movie theatre right here in town again. So, after grabbing a slice of pizza at Manco and Manco’s, I’d head over to the Moorlyn Theatre. This theatre for a lot of us, had been lost to time. However, over the last year, it’s gotten quite the makeover. Now, it’s not a giant theatre, but it is beautifully restored and has been a staple on the Boardwalk for as long as I can remember. They have a rotating selection of the most recent releases.

Rain at the shore can be a chance to explore the island. I hope this has helped and given you some new fun ways to enjoy being here in Ocean City this summer. Until next month my friends!
