Find Out – Is the Facial Yoga Trend Worth the Hype?
How often have you been targeted on social media for a $20/mo facial yoga app? A trend gaining popularity for its promise of youthful, toned skin involves exercises designed to stimulate and tone the muscles of the face. Proponents claim that regular practice can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, improve skin elasticity, and promote a radiant complexion. But is it worth the hype?
The effectiveness of facial yoga is a topic of debate among experts. Advocates believe that these exercises increase blood circulation, reduce tension, and promote collagen production. All which lead to firmer skin and a more youthful appearance. Some studies support these claims, suggesting that consistent practice can lead to noticeable improvements over time (with regular continual use). Quite similar to facial gua sha!
Facial yoga offers a natural and non-invasive way to potentially improve the appearance of your skin. While it may not be a miracle solution or instant Botox, incorporating these exercises into your daily routine could complement other skincare practices. As with any exercise regimen, consistency and proper technique are key. If you’re curious, it might be worth trying for a few months to see if you notice any positive changes.
How to Do Facial Yoga
While there are a ton of facial yoga exercises to try, here are a few to get started to see if it’s something you want to incorporate into your routine.
Neck Tightener
Sit upright and tilt your head back to look at the ceiling. Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Hold for 10 seconds and repeat 10 times.
Forehead Smoother
Place both hands on your forehead with fingers spread out. Gently sweep your hands outwards, applying slight pressure, to smooth out the forehead. Repeat this motion 10 times.
Cheek Lifter
Smile widely, then place your fingers lightly on the top part of your cheeks. Lift your cheeks upwards using your facial muscles while providing slight resistance with your fingers. Hold for a few seconds and repeat 10 times.
Eye Tightener
Place your index fingers at the outer corners of your eyes and middle fingers at the inner corners. Gently pull your fingers outward to tighten the skin around your eyes. Hold the position and blink rapidly for 10 seconds.
Smile Smoother
Purse your lips together as if you’re going to kiss. Pull your lips to one side, hold for 5 seconds, then switch to the other side. Repeat this movement 10 times on each side.
Jawline Definer
Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling. Push your lower jaw forward to feel a stretch under the chin. Hold for 10 seconds and repeat 10 times.
