Seeking Special Olympics Volunteers OCNJ
Ocean City is hosting the 2024 Special Olympics’ New Jersey Area 8 (Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties) Track and Field Meet on Sunday, April 28 at Carey Stadium. Volunteers are needed.
More than 60 athletes will compete in this meet in hopes of qualifying for the Special Olympics New Jersey State Summer Games held at The College of New Jersey from June 7-9.
As a result, the Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to staff the meet. Volunteers are needed as:
- Escorts (to walk athletes from their staging area to the starting line or from the finish line to the awards area)
- Timers
- Recording
- Entertaining athletes in the “Fun Zone”
Volunteers ages 14 and older can sign up for morning (starting at 9am), afternoon (starting at 12pm), or all-day sessions (9am-topm). All volunteers will receive a shirt and pizza for lunch.
Anybody interested in volunteering, please contact Jackie Adams at 609-525-9304 or [email protected]. All volunteers register here by filling out this Google doc:

The parade of athletes starts at 9:45am and the meet at 10am on Sunday, April 28. Most of all, spectators are encouraged to come out and cheer on the athletes in the meet.
“I’m proud that Ocean City can host Special Olympics events throughout the year,” Mayor Jay Gillian said. “I hope you all get a chance to come out on Sunday and give all of these athletes a warm welcome and our full support.”
